Coolant explosion, Manual Fan ........

Post by bertnuggit »

Been a while since I posted, my Van must have been working OK! (well it got up Porlock Hill a few weeks ago)....

Apart from last weekend. Long queue getting onto Festival Site (Bearded Theory - very good), switched engine on & off a few times, forgot that my radiator fan has a manual switch & didn't switch on....Parked up then noticed a load of coolant leaking out the back end...I'm wondering why the auto fan was changed to manual dual speed switch? Could I change back to auto fan with manual overide?? :?

Our's has an original 2 speed sensor in the rad but with a 'chicken' override switch on the dash

Ta,
maybe my sensor is bust & my 'chicken' overide is the only way to get the fan running.....So a new sensor could be the ticket!

Really easy to change....bottom right side (as you look at it from the front) remove both grilles. One out one in (this can be done with minimum coolant loss) then bleed via the 13mm nut left top of radiator. top up.
Definately not a time to fit cheap parts as this can be (as you've found out) very critical...WAHLER two speed fan switch from Brickwerks (about £13.00 plus post)
