Fitting new window seals (factory fitted windows)
I've read all three guides in the wiki for fitting new seals (factory fitted windows - no trim), however I was hoping someone might be able to answer a couple of questions I have.
Mainly I'd like some advice on what might be best to use para chord or cable? Also when the two ends overlap each other, do I keep both of them hanging outside the lip of the seal, or just the one?
I'm also under the impression it is best to do it without lubricating the seal due to the fact it may allow it to pop out easier. I'd be greateful for any tips or tricks, things to look out for/ avoid etc with this job. I'm sure I'll find out all about it tomorrow, but it's always best to have an idea of what might go wrong + how to deal with it if possible.
Many thanks.

hey you can use lecky wire as in the stuff running round your van or cord like para cord , if you insert the cord then leave 2 loops out , do this on each of the vertical runs, use cheapo green coloured glass cleaner spray to lubricate, just blas it onto the inside of the rubber prior to fitting

Re: Fitting new window seals (factory fitted windows)
hi, thanks for your reply on this. Am I right in thinking to have the cable/chord doing a loop around the seal with both ends hanging either side along the vertical edges, therefore starting at either top corner?
cheers, Bilson.

errrrrr, start on say the left vertical and leave a foot of cord out then insert it up along the top and half way down the other vertical, put a loop twist what ever in and leave a foot out and continue down and along the bottom and then come back up the side you started and when you meet the first bit sticking out giveit a twist round it and your done, spray the bugger well with glass cleaner and have somebody keeping iot pushed pressed against the frame on the outside and you on the inner work the cord up first on side and then the next till you get just round a corner then do the other way , hey you can go up or start going down , your coice

Did the two rear side windows today, all went well, + actually harder to get them out than to put them back in.
I'll be doing the middle side (sliding) windows tomorrow + giving them a proper clean and new brush seals. I still need to source and get hold of a suitable replacement for the seal that runs along the top, but most concerned about these bits, just wondering if anyone knows of a suitable replacement?

Re: Fitting new window seals (factory fitted windows)
Had trouble fitting the first of the middle side windows today, 1st time round the cord ripped through the glued seam (inside section only), then cord kept slipping and pulling through, with a extra two feet of cord, the same thing happened 5" short of completing the seal.
I think, daylight, an even longer cord + a couple more arms on the outside might help.
Any tips on what I may be doing wrong + what glue might be suitable for the seam would be much appreciated.

Thanks for the advice, got the two middle side windows in today. I looked at getting a thicker cord, but everything that was available had more stretch to it so I doubled up on the length of para cord instead. I also lined up the window so that it sat slightly higher in the frame, which I think helped.
Unfortunately I learnt not to pull one way with one end and then switch to the other end and start to pull from the other direction. I descided to do this to try and avoid splitting the glued seam again, but instead of that the cord cut through the seal at the point where I'd started. So that's definately something to avoid doing.
what adhesive do you use for the rubber?

superglue best you use electrical wire it does not damage rubber and it can be easily pulled out it also very strong
Re: Fitting new window seals (factory fitted windows)
Received my new rubbers last week courtesy of metalmickey (cheers mike) now need to refit the windows, is this the correct tool for the job or is there a better one, also any recommended sealants to use when refitting

The last window I did I used that plastic washing line and used a squirt of waxoil around the frame, it was the easiest time yet.
