Help - Side window

Post by steve d »

Hi Guys,

I'm looking to change the side window in my bus, its an 1987 Holdsworth Villa 3 high top. At the moment it has a louvel window behind the kitchen

Image

I want to change it to a fixed window because some little sod forced one of the pannels to brake into the van. I brought a standard window for the bus but it doesn't seem to fit, its approx 2-3 cm too wide. Has anyone else tried to replace a window in a Holdsworth Villa and had this problem?

When I removed the louvel window the hole in the pannel measures 108cm X 40cm exactly

Does anyone know if Holdsworths have smaller windows or where I can buy a window that will fit.

Any help greatly appriciated,
Cheers,

If it comes to it you can just increase the size of the hole for the glass. Not sure if they used different sizes though.

By 'standard' i assume you mean a vw window?

Don't forget vw windows were designed to fit into the recessed side panels, not surface mount as all the converted van windows did, so it may not fit, even if you increase the size of hole.

My van was an autohomes conversion, and both the rear side windows were different sizes! I've since fabricated proper recessed caravelle window frames into place.

I took all the windows out of my V3 last year when I resprayed it, including the louvered one and although I had no need to measure the holes they looked to be the same size to me. The Louvered one uses a gasket thing around the frame that sits inside the main rubber, presumably to pad it out to fit the seal.

I bought my new seals from Metal Mickey, perhaps he could shed more light on this for you. :ok

And although some scroat tried to burgle the van, are you sure about having to replace the louvered one? Really good to use on a hot day/summer night, particularly if using the cooker. Not during the night, obviously  Or does the window in the hi-top open too?
