Hi all,
i own a vw t25 1.9 petrol waterboxer engine 1990reg
Well i decided to get it tested, so on the morning of the mot i set off with high hopes, after about 2 minutes driving i noticed a lot smoke out the rear so much so that i couldnt see the road behind me! after another mile the smoke was only getting worse so i headed home, when i stopped i could see oil dripping from the exhaust.
i have had a good look around the engine and the only leak i can see is coming from one of the rear exhaust gaskets, also the sparkplug in the same corner dose seem to be alot blacker than the rest, but not oily.
The vehicle drives fine and there is plenty of power there.
It has been stood up for a year whilst being resprayed and only been in and out of the garage a few times.
Any ideas anyone???

Re: Oil from tailpipe???
What's the oil level on the dip-stick? Has it been over-filled? Could the rings be gummed up after being sat for a year?
It's a bit late now but if an engine is going to be stored or left standing it really should be inhibited first and then be checked & lubed before being put back into service.

Oil level is spot on, that was the first thing I checked & the respray took about 9 months longer than I was hopping!
If the rings are gummed up does that mean an engine out job?

oil dripping from the exhaust.
I just want to check. Do you mean oil dripping from out of the exhaust pipe at the end, or oil running down the outside of the exhaust pipe?

Yes its dripping from the tailpipe and I've since had another good look around and can see 2 more exhaust joins that are seeping oil?

Doing a compression test . Especialy on the cylinder with the black plug May show up leaky rings or possibly faulty valve seal.

Re: Oil from tailpipe???
Did the compression test and the cylinder with the black plug on the right hand rear, next to the leaky exhaust manifold had the most pressure of all them???
So off came the fuel manifold and there it was, a valve stem was whey out of place a the whole chamber/port was full of oil!!
So the heads off and will taken to be sorted tomorrow.
