vanagon air cooled: vacuum advance hose locations

Post by rich baker »

vanagon engine.jpg

I have problems with the idle when cold - engine cuts out and wont restart. I have changed plugs ,points, dizzy cap, leads and cleaned all connectors. I have read it could be the cold start valve or the temp sensor. I also have 2 of the vaccum hoses with no home. I have located one to the fuel sensor (red box far left) from the T bar (red box middle) as thiswas hanging loose, the other hose from the T bar connects to the intake air distributor. The other hose with no home (middle blue box) comes from the throttle and is plugged with a screw. Are these locations correct? Can anyone point me in the direction of a diagrammatic layout of the hoses. (its not in the vanagon haynes either) Could this be the problem for no idle when cold? all halp much appreciated.................. i have just realised the hose coming from the throttle has no home because there is no vaccum unit on the distrubutor - is this unusual? Am I the only one out there with such a set up here?
