i have a chance to buy a cover for the back box, he wants 30 quid, its in good nick.
my ??s is are these hard to source ? & is 30quid sound about right?

Is it for the right exhaust and do you need one? If you don't need it, then it's not worth 30 quid, if you do need it then I guess it's on the money

it is on a diesil at the moment & mine is a 16td , the back box looks better without the back box on show to the world (when the tin worm sets in) was thinking of lowering but i have the underslung gas tank which i need to keep, might get him down a bit on price as i want the westty towbar as well.

I've only ever seen them on TD engines to be honest, so it sounds like you're onto a good thing. I think they are probably a bit scarce now as they were quite thin metal (if I'm thinking of the right bit...) Multivan sound deadening kit iirc.
£30 isn't a massive amount of money these days, doesn't get you many pints and a bag of chips on the way home
