Rubber steering coupling

Post by lhd »

I thought this would be a ten minute job but it doesn't look like it now....

Any idea how you go about this?
All the others are nuts and bolts but there's no way of getting a spanner on the rear of it.
It's the one that attaches to the relay box.

Is this the one rob. There appears to be a bolt and clamp.Maybe undoing this might help. There does seem like there is a nut,on the other end of the bold you have circled.

Yes Rob it's the one on the left of the diagram you posted, that shows nuts and bolts as does the Haynes manual. :?
I felt around the back and couldn't feel a nut.
It's hard to see as its right up in the chassis, I will have to get a small mirror in there.
Thinking about it.it might be easier to remove the connecting rod complete.

I cut mine off with a grinder because it was splitting and put a new one on from Brickwerks I think, that had to have a nut and bolt through.

As said, cut it off, or drill those out and replace with nuts and bolts, from memory I think they are like giant rivets so doesn't take long if you can get a drill on it.

at the steering rack end undo the 2 bolts that are bolts on the rubber coupling, move the shaft aside a little and then undo the single bolt holding the coupling metal part to the relay and remove the shaft and the front coupling complete, it helps to paint mark it all before splitting it, drill out the rivets, fit new rubber with HT bolts and do the one at the steering rack end at the same time, reassembly is the opposite
