Yes I know.
I took the word of James Calvert and Lee from LA Performance. They are both proffesional engine builders and do a lot of type 4 motors. They both told me that one manifold was sufficient.
Thats good enough for me.

I bossed both of mine with 10mm barbs, drilled, tapped and filed off flush on the inside of the manifold. I've seen some with one side and some with both sides done, I just copied the way VW had it set up originally. May be worth giving Jim at Stateside a ring. I know he supplied the right manifolds and would put the boss in for you.

Dellorto DRLA 40 jetting guide - idling but not driving so g

Post by askoulding »

Guys,

Ok - Dells in, one side manifold bossed for brakes and linkage sorted. Got the thing idling well (after a rough "by ear" balance) with good response when booting the pedal stationary. However, big performance issue when driving it - seems ok in 1st if i'm not too heavy on the pedal but rubbish through the rest of the 'box. Seems to show symptoms of lean mix when booting it. I'm guessing that it could be float heights in the Dells? I have jetted:

30 chokes
120 mains
180 airs
58 idles
9164.2 tubes
35 pumps

Any help, as always, much appreciated with a few beers owed if ever we may cross paths.

Andrew.

Have you got the del superformance book that has jets and guidance? It's v good and helpful. I think when I ran a 2ltr air cooled I used 60idles 135 mains. If in doubt re these carbs you could post on vzi or ring Eurocarb in reading who see all the bits. Good luck.

If I've done one side u might benefit from an anti-pulse valve in line to the servo.

I have the guide and very handy it is too! Just a case of annoying the neighbours for a few hours to get the balance right. I got a Synchrometer vacuum gauge so shouldn't be too tricky from here. Next job is to tackle to good old fuel gauge problem - eliminated the dash end, so I know whats coming next!

Thanks for your help chaps - until next time...

Did you get 60 idles or 58's working? Important to get mix right so to keep engine temps normal, tool lean means hot engine, too rici means ££££ and black soot everywhere.
