Fridge questions (with pic)

Hi guys,

Hope everyone is well and gearing up for camping season!

I have had the luxury of a day working on the van, I have mainly been deciding on lighting and generally checking the electrics but then got distracted and decided its time to get the fridge working.

I have had the van for years but never really used the fridge so not really sure how it works. the fridge looks like this:-



I tried the fridge on 240v and it seemed to start getting cold, when in the 12v position the fridge seems to click and relay had power so I will assume that works.

I have taken the fridge out now to give it the old upside down treatment but would like to try the gas when I put it back.

Now the gas?! I see that there is a yellow button and a black button. Also there is a little gauge that has a white and a green side with a little red pointer.

Would anyone be able to offer some advice on how i use the gas? Is there a place I can see the flame ? How do I know its lit?

Also any advice on things to do while its out?

I think I have found out how you would see the flame, there appears to be a small viewing hole at the bottom of the inside of the fridge.

So i guess that the buttons are the spark and the gas starter but what is the small gauge?

I can't see a gauge in your reference pic.
It might be gas pressure, temperature.. dunno

Thats true, the fridge in the post is not exactly the same as mine but was close. I will take one of my own. one moment please.

If the fridge is working on 230v what do you hope to achieve by turning the fridge upside down? Do you understand the reason for turning a fridge upside down?

Sure, to dislodge or dissolve any crystallisation that has formed. Im mainly doing it whilst it is out as a matter of course, I needed to remove the fridge anyway to check all the electrics and run some new cables etc.

So when its on 220/240v which setting on dial does it need to be on? Min? or can it be anywhere when on mains?

An informed....guess, because although not the same some features are similar to mine.

Firstly...set the gas valves to allow fuel through to the fridge.
Set the three way rocker switch to it's centre 'O' position
Rotate the rotary gas valve fully clock wise
Press in and HOLD the biege button Whilst.....pressing the dark brown igniter button repeatedly
You must hold in the biege button after the pilot is lit for 10-15 seconds to allow the thermo coupling to heat up and keep the gas on.

There should be a glass inspection hole..don't expect the flame to be particularly brite...sometimes it is dificult to see if the flame is lit.
You might hear a 'Popping' noise as the pilot tries to light....it may take several attempts to ACTUALLY light.
Let go of the thermo coupling overide button (once lit) after 10 - 15 seconds.

@ california , that make sense to me, I was thinking something along those lines myself.

Going to leave the fridge on mains over night to test then put back in the van tomorrow and test the gas.

Don't expect too much...they take literally hours to start working and need to be completely on the level.

Its Ok I found the door

Left the fridge on over night and after making sure all wire contacts are clean the cans of pop I put in there are nice and cold!

I have been thinking that now would be a good time to install a better fan, Im going to get a 3 way switch so I can overide the thermo switch and bring the fan on when I want.
