Putting Side Window Back In - Any Advice?

Post by zed »

I took the side window out of my Autosleeper this morning to do some repairs. I in the final stages of painting and will putting the window back in in an hour or two. Need a couple more coats of paint first.

The sequence if I am right is :-

1). fit the seal to the van
2). Fit the window in to the seal top first and gently prise the seal around the window.
3). Fit the bead in the seal.

My question is are there any tricks I should know? and should I use any silicone sealer between the seal and the van?

Thanks in anticipation.

Not silicone sealer... use something like sikaflex, tigerseal or arbomast autograde.

Fit the seal to the window.
Place rope in seal.
Fit window/seal into van.

Do a search, there's lots of threads with info about this.

I thought was just windscreens. I am sure for side windows I read somewhere it is seal to van then window to seal?

I fitted my side windows back in with string.

I can't remember seeing any thing different - but then again....

I'm sure somebody will come along and correct me.

Yep, seal first. Its back in. Titus, yours may be different \ factory fitted. My seal is not continuous so would not stop on using the rope trick.

No sealer used except for sikaflex where the ends of the seal meet. Just cleaned the seal before putting back. fingers crossed, no leaks.

Thanks for the advice.

Try a bead of windscreen sealer - it's like a non-setting mastick so will keep the window sealed if the rubber shrinks.
