My power steering has never been quite right, on full lock the steering wheel would pulse quite heavily and the pump drive bel t would slip a little bit. Now the belt is really slipping and i have left it that way because i think there must be a pressure relief valve or something that is stuck? This being the case i would rather have a slipping belt then something else letting go....
am i right in my assumption about a pressure relief valve? if so where is it and how can i unstick it?
If your belt is slipping its for two reasons, firstly and most likely, your belt is knackered and secondly your pulley is knackered. There isnt a relief valve in the power steering circuit.
Pulsing isn't a pressure build up, its a pressure loss as the belt slips. Full lock is the point of highest pressure so that's where it will occur first
