automatic 2.1 occasionally not starting

Post by aarons56 »

Sometimes won't restart when on a long run having stopped for fuel or comfort break.
It's as if the gear is in drive. There is power but the starter motor doesn't engage.
Eventually it starts usually after the breakdown people have been called out!
Happens once every few hundred miles. Have you had a similar problem and figured out the source of the problem? Thanks

Cold be the contacts that make when the stick is in the park position. Mine wold not start unless I wiggled the stick from side to side, at one point. try it next time it will not start. Turn the key and rock the stick side to side in park.

I cleaned and reset the contacts on mine and have had no issuse since. The contacts are under the gear shift cover at the drivers side of the gear shift

It happend to me several times.
It was the starter motor connection it needed cleaning and once done ensure
you pinch the connection tighter or it will slip off after a decent run. :o
