Reading your opening post the first thing I noticed is that you said the connector on the speedo was not connected but the oil pressure light worked. Did you mean the oil pressure light worked after re-connnecting the connector?

with the plug disconnected, I get the flashing light on the clock which dissapears after its run the checks, also the Battery and Oil light come on ( solid red dot ) then they both dissapear when I start the van ?? :?

I wonder if someone has wired this up with the earlier type oil light only system, (operated by only 1 sensor) ?

I bet I am right ;)

imho, many vehicles of the age managed without VW's rather complicated "DWPS" system and I might be tempted to go along with the more simple oil light on if the pressure drops system !

In which case all this faffing and worry will have been a waste of time :run

well if the BoD plug is out of the back of the speedo, the oil shouldnt be able to work unless even more muppetry has taken place......

and from talking to wig yesterday i dont think that is the case.. i think he means the plug in the engine bay to the sensor near the pulleys

My mistake BY PLUG ( which could be bloody anything )I mean the one that was going into the back of the dashboard, the oil lights, Batt, etc.. all work as they should. It just seems to stop the buzzing noise.

As I say, personally, although Steve is of course correct, I would opt for the keep it simple approach.
I would get the oil pressure checked by a garage and keep the simple "oil light comes on if pressure drops" system you seem to have had before you embarked on al this !

Just my opinion and many may disagree with me

Worked fine on bugs and I don't have a BOD - one less thing to have to worry about. :)

I presume VW opted for this detection idea due to the long length you'd have to run for an oil pressure gauge back then but these days thats less of a problem.

Meandering a bit =

It just occurred to me that the only time the high pressure / above 2500 rpm warning would go off is if you had a sudden major failure resulting in loss of pressure. 99% of the time this would be summat pretty terminal anyway.

With the simple "oil light comes on if pressure drops" system, a lack of oil pressure (unless caused by low oil resulting in air bubbles) always manifests itself by the warning light starting to come on at tickover, progressively getting worse over time as shell bearings or pump etc start to fail.

As the DWPS system is famous for going off when it shouldn't, I reckon I agree with Rob =

So in the end decided to take it to the local VW garage, ( Thankgod the guy really knew what he was on about )

Basically in the past somebody has tryed all sorts to avoid this BOD. Even done some re-wiring behind the dash and cut into some of the wires heading down to the sensors in the hope to bypass or fix the buzz. ( its not as bad as it sounds )

So i'm still left without a buzzer and will be until I buy a new dash setup. :? or new wiring kit.

But its working via the oil light and now:

Worked fine on bugs and I don't have a BOD - one less thing to have to worry about. :)

Oil pressure was sweet as a nut and he continued to complement how good the engine was :ok

Massive thanks for the help guys! I would have been lost.

ITS ALL A BIG LEARNING CURVE !

Sorry, been away. The oil pressure warning system has obviously been modified to the earlier spec with oil pressure switch having direct control of the warning LED. I removed the BOD on mine and prefer the earlier system. I still use the other oil pressure switch to indicate my high oil pressure is OK but using a different and more reliable method to the VW BoD system.
