Engine Oil in power steering reservoir

Post by jonnyshowbiz »

Hi All,

Like a an idiot I've just put engine oil in the power steering reservoir - of my wife's car - BMW. The reservoir was topped up and only took a little oil before overflowing.
Is this a drain, flush, refill or are the oils different weights and the engine oil will float on the surface and I can draw it off and refill, or thirdly, its all good no problem.
Any advice would be very gratefully received
Thanks
What a mug !

Drain, flush and replace and check in a weeks time. Engine oil hasn't got the properties of atf to lubricate the seals in the pas system and is too viscous.
It's not rust, they're heat blisters....

IF......IF you haven't started the engine, you could schringe out the contents of the resevoir and add power steering oil (the correct oil) which may not be ATF.
