Stuck in Spain need distributor please help!

Post by MarkP »

Hi guys,

Have broken down in Spain and need a replacement distributor. My van is a 1984 1.9 petrol engine of the fuel injected Digijet variety. Does anyone have suggestions of where to purchase one (new or used)?

I've tried Justkampers but they don't have one for T25s in stock. I've found this aftermarket replacement as a quick fix but i'm unsure of its suitability. Here's the ebay link:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/VW-T25-Waterc ... 19ca5380fc" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

The bit that concerns me is the following:

Requirements:

Negative Earth
Ignition Coil with less than 1.4 ohms resistance ideally 0.6 ohms
For the T25 Water cooled you will need to bypass the external box and go directly to the coil

Will my 1984 Digijet engine be able to meet these requirements?

Any suggestions gratefully received!!

Cheers,

Mark

you cannot use that dizzy.

you need a standard electronic dizzy from a t25.

presume you have a german or usa van ? as uk vans did not have fuel injection on 1.9 engines, only 2.1 versions

let me know if your still stuck and i will see if i can find one . where in spain are you?

who has diagnosed th problem? is it defo the dizzy?

Hi Billy,

Thanks for your help. We're in San Sebastian and a local garage (http://www.anzizar.com" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;) has diagnosed the problem as the distributor. We do have a German imported van (Westy) and we are finding it really hard to find the part - even the garage look like they are going to give up! Do you think you'd be able to source one? That would be brilliant....let me know what you think or if you need any more information (I can send you the part numbers /photos of the original if it helps).

Thanks again,

Mark

I cannot be of much direct help, other than to say a standard T25 distributor won't be hard to find, just a case of being patient and enjoying your enforced stay in San Sebastion until one gets to you via this thread. Knowing Billy (a little) I bet he will come up trumps :)

I am posting to say I found it amusing in that Ebay sale, the seller says "developed to replace the troublesome points system with a modern magnetic pick-up giving you a more reliable and effective ignition system" as T25's were never fitted with points  Also, god knows what advance curves you would get with that...

Hi Billy,

Thanks for getting back to me. Sorry to sound so amateurish (the Westy is my first van), not 100% about the 1plug/round corners but I have the part numbers:

Bosch: 0237022045
VW: 025905205K

Let me know if it helps, I can always ring the garage and ask for more info.

Try Karvan Furgonetas, based in Seville (or possibly Granada.. my memory's not what it was). They are the main T3 guys I know in Spain and it'll save any import / postal taxes at least. I'll try and find a link to them if you're struggling; get your garage to give them a bell - really good people

Hi Mark, forgive me for being nosey but I'm sure I'm not the only one interested in your plight. Did you get your dizzy sorted and are you back on the road? It must be reassuring to know so many folk are in your corner. Best o luck.
