Central locking or not?

not central locking.

the key goes in fine, not stiff or obstructed.
it will turn ok to lock the chrome knob
it will turn ok to unlock, and the chrome knob pushes right in. then nothing......

This is because the mechanism has moved slightly on the little metal bar inside meaning it now no longer moves the catch. If you remove interior trim you should be able to see what I mean and flip the lock open with a screwdriver. Hard to describe but makes sense when you get in there and see how it works. Have someone on the outside pressing the button in and you'll see whats happened. You'll find the lug on the lock is missing the catch.

You will need to crawl over the back seat.Remove the door panel and manually release the catch. Then hopefully you should be able to lock/unlock the door.Get someone to turn the key whilst you are in the back. This should give you some idea as to how it operates.
