Never seen one of those before. Looks older than sixties - pretty basic by the look of it.

Not a great recommendation.......

"but the type caused so many problems that it was removed from front line service prematurely in 1970. The M38A1 NEKAF Jeeps, that had been stored in mobilization compounds for reserve units, were re-issued to operational units "

Give me a Trekker any day. 8)

You can drive offroad with a Munga but it's not the best for that... I think the buyer should be a collector... :D

DKW Munga is what the iltis is based upon.
DKW was part of the auto union, which later became audi.
When the europa jeep project fell apart in the 70's it left a whole host of countries without a small 4wheel drive so the German federal government put the work out to tender.
VW, keen to impress, wanted to put a vehicle forward, and audi had the expertise and know how as they had built the Munga.
So, audi evolved the Munga for vw and came up with the iltis.
If you see a Munga and an iltis without a body on they look very similar indeed.
Interesting vehicle.
Funny how the iltis then gave up some of its technology to the audi quattro!

Lets get anal here ..... In 1932, DKW merged with Audi, Horch and Wanderer, to form the Auto Union. Auto Union came under Daimler-Benz ownership in 1957, but wasn't purchased by the Volkswagen Group until 1964 by which time this vehicle had reached its final development. So really it was MB who came up with the Iltis .....

As an aside, as a child, as I used to walk to school, barefoot, I would pass a DKW dealer and press up against the glass and stare .................... at the crisp factory across the road !!

The Munga used to be a really cheap way of getting into MV's, really only should be a few 100 at most. Be interesting to see what the dreaded ebay adds to the proper price. They're 2wd not 4 iirc.
