Poptop roof refurb required

Post by Simpsonstu »

Hi gang,

Firstly some of the regulars on here are brilliant for a newbie like myself, some very accommodating and patient people, chuffed to bits I found the site.

I bought a 1983 T25 with the pop top that has the plastic sides and pushes up with 4 struts, leading to 4 solid sides straight up.

Everything is in good nick apart from the roof which needs the wood and polystyrene cut away and replaced. I know its a doable job but I'm a muppet with this stuff and work long hours so was hoping theres a friendly chap out there who anyone knows can take it on.

Quotes for a new roof range from 800-1750 for glass fibre ones but I'm just not sure its necessary. Seems to be lots of mechanics and bodywork aces but I can't find a decent roof refurbisher unless you want the whole thing doing i.e Autovans.

Thanks in advance,

Stu, Surrey

Hi Stu, From your explanation it sounds like you have got an Autohomes roof. I had one fitted to my camper with exactly the same issue. I give up trying to source parts as everyone I spoke to stopped repairing them years ago. I opted for a high top from eBay and have not looked back. Good look on your roof mission. :ok

Hi Stu

I have the same roof and had a total refurb last march costing £1400. I had major leakage and the whole ceiling just crumbled away.

The original roof cap is rubbish with an aluminium plate which just sucks up water to be released at a later date!

So I've had a new fibre glass cap fitted plus all the hinges/seals refurbed. You can get the cap for £750 I believe. I'd say get it sorted or convert to a high top. Timbertech can do one for about the same money.

Check out Autovan near Bournemouth. Think it's http://www.autovan.co.uk" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;. There's Doug in Angmering who I reckon could fit and refurb for a lot less than Autovan charge too.
