wheel / tyre sizes generally

Post by monkeyboysee »

Hi all,

i've just picked up my 1981 Aircooled, it has 185/14 steel rims and tyres fitted. I need to replace a couple of tyres so am looking at getting some more wheels with the same tyres, plus some wheel trims. i'm also looking at maybe getting some alloys with tyres on, what makes etc will fit? can i get any VW 5 stud wheels or even general 5 stud? can i put 15" on? can i go to 195 if necessary?

i'm not very technical, so answers in laymans terms would be very much appreciated.

All these answers, and more, are in the wiki. Link at the top of every page . Also check out the wheels section on Brickyard.

Just noticed you're in Retford, which van is yours?

hi mate,

you won't have seen us yet, i only picked him up the other night and he's on our drive while we smarten him up a bit, various bits need sorting before we're ready to use.

we're in South Wheatley where are you?

its years since i did anything with cars etc so its hard work working out what the hell i'm doing but i like a challenge, and the goal is worth it!
