fuel leak - please help with hose replacement

Hi

complete newbie to all this.

I've just picked my first ever van and I have discovered a fuel leak coming from the small hose that you can see in the picture below. Its the thin (6mm) hose with the white writing on it coming into the engine bay from the bulkhead at the top of the picture. Obviously I need to get this sorted ASAP.

I'm not entirely sure what this hose is but i'm guessing its the main fuel hose from the tank

I need to know the best way to go about replacing this thing as it dissappears into the bulkhead and connects to a larger fuel hose via a grommet. It seems like a simple enough job if I could get behind the bulkhead to hook it up propoerly.....presumably I'm going to need to jack the van up to be able to reach up there and do it properly.

any advice on this would be greatly received.

Hello,

That looks like the fuel return pipe, from carb back to tank. If its like mine it connects to a non return valve the otherside of the bulk head before returning to the tank. Fairly easy job, the first one i undertook. I didn't jack mine up but crawled underneath little tricky to access though and be careful with dirt/grit in your eyes. Make sure you use proper fuel hose clamps not just standard Jubilee clips. Big section in the wiki on changing fuel hoses.

Also don't want to cause extra grief, but it looks like the coolant expansion tank is not connected to the top up tank. I could be wrong but I think this should be connected to allow hot coolant to pass into the top up and back again. It could however be a different system in yours.

I wondered whether i might be able to get to it underneath without a jack. I'll give it a go. I really need to do this as petrol is pishing out of the split all over the engine.

the hose currently in place says 6mm on it, but I've read that these ought to be 5.5mm. Is that right?

by the way, the engine in the pic isn't my actual engine, just an identical one i found on the web.

Don't run it whatever you do, if that hose has split the rest will be iffy as well. Change the lot or have them done by a garage if you're not 100% confident.

Fuel + hot engine bay = at best.

I do intend to replace the lot as that seems to be the thing to do according to all I've read on here.

Any idea if 5.5mm is the correct size for this hose, if it is the fuel return hose?

I was going to get one of these
