golf 1z 1.9 tdi conversion assistance pleeeease

Post by skankyunderpants »

Ok, so ive managed to source a 1997 golf estate just ran out of mot for £200, an with the fuel prices going the way they are im thinking letts sadly loose the ever reliable an fautless dg petrol lump, an get this tdi baby in, but with my knowledge being at rock bottom about anything mechanical at all, im hoping for help off you guys,

heres the plan.......

get the parts off the car that i need, then scrap the rest, get the engine on my work bench and strip it back to basics, tidy it up with a pin gun, prime it, paint it, then re build it with new parts, then go for it, so ok, all sounds good and optimistic right? but its do able surely... then fit the rascal, im in no rush, i want to get all the parts and have it all ready for the end of show season, then after the last show, thats when the fun will start..

so what i would like off you knowledgable lot is...

what exactly do i need to take off the golf before scrapping it????
and what parts will i need to source to make the swap happen?
also if anybody has the parts to make this swap easier???

Also, any other information about this plan would be much appriciated? :ok

Thanks guys... skankk!!
