Tappets

Post by baysaway »

Hope someone can help with this.

Not had any dealings with water cooled VWs up to now but
have the chance of an Xplorer with viking roof. Generally solid and tidy
Bit of seam rash few bubbles one front panel and one rear arch will need attention.

But my real concern is the engine.1.9 ltr petrol. Bus has no MOT and hasn't been used since it ran out
3/4 months ago. When started it is quite noisy from tappets. Is this usual? I remember these are hydraulic
do they take a while to settle down?

Guy is off travelling and hasn't got time to MOT and sell so will take £1500 to get
rid asap does this seem good, bad, ok.

Look forward to replies....

My concern wouldn't be the engine ...that's just nuts and bolts and easily replaced

it would be the bodywork, that is the most important thing for me... you can't get panels and seams cannot be stopped rusting with out major interior upheaval
