Westfalia - Which canvas type?

Post by richlaz »

Hello :D

I'm looking to replace the canvas on my Westy.

I understand there are two different types, depending on the month/year of the vehicle ( roughly 1980 - 4/1984 and 5/1984 - 1990)

I know my van was first registered in 1984, but have no idea when. It was brought over to this country in 2006 (V5 just shows when registered in UK).

I therefore have no idea which canvas my van needs. Does anyone know the differences, is there any way of visually seeing if I have an early or late style roof?

Thanks in advance for any help :D :ok

Take a pic of your van with the roof erected and how the canvas is held on the inner part of the roof
You can say alot of of things with "ar"

I think the older ones have the top of the canvas stapled in place and the newer ones have the top held in place by alloy strips screwed in place. If its the latter this thread may help... https://club8090.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?f=40&t=67091" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; Anyhow it will show you how the later type is fitted which will help you decide which yours is.

Cheers guys, the bottom of canvas is definately held by alloy strips screwed down, and I'm pretty sure the top is the same too. Will take some pics tomorrow to show :D
