This is one of the friendliest/easy-going/helpful forums going. (and we will fcuk you up if anyone says otherwise!!)
Both vans look pretty rotten from the pics. Its nothing personal, us mainlanders don't know the sellers or previous owners. Vans like that might be the norm in the sea-spray swept Channel Islands. Who knows?
People are just making observations about what they can see. This is a Syncro forum where sometimes we talk about Syncros.
And from what I can see, IMO, I've seen CJ cut up better.

Welcome. :ok

Hang on, I'm just going to bang my head against a brick wall.... :rofl

Karl, you are obviously that used to reading some of the nasty comments that seem to get posted on here, everytime a vehicle of interest comes up for sale, that you don't realise when people are doing it!
Both vans don't look "pretty rotten" at all...They are 20 odd year old vans FFS!...Go and buy an early 90's transhite, (actually typed tr an sit, but this really funny joke pops up) and see how that looks!
CJ has "cut up better"...Well, if that the case CJ, is a bit of a pratt IMO!

Ok, rant over again.

I think I'll have a flick around the net, see whats for sale a few hundred miles away, and ring the owner up "for a giggle" ..Oh hang on, I'd better not, as my 10 year old will be a bit embarrassed for me if I do that!

How much would you pay for that 20 year old Tranny then? Elvis don't answer that!!
Maybe you're right, if you think the Doka's a good, £7K example then fine, I won't argue with you. I haven't seen it in the flesh.
Have to disagree with your view of the forum though, Yeah people have a laugh at/comment on old nails but also praise nice old buses, the work people do to them & offer advice. Some folk have had bust ups & disagree, (FFS don't mention VC's & decouplers! ) but I'm pretty sure none of them would leave the other stranded, make some phone calls or tow them to a pull-in/parkig area.
You've only got to look at a recent member, Cooper, who, I've got to be honest exasperated me at times, but the forum kept helping/advising & now has her syncro.

Well folks - I admit this has been a really good thread and I have enjoyed following it.

I have some sympathy with bhp`s comments in the fact when the folk on hear say they have concerns they can be tough. It would be unfair to say they punch holes in everything but they can be a bit cynical. Anyone who has had one of these things perhaps gets a bit cynical too having spent good money on one as they cost to maintain properly. However, that`s no bad thing because the facts are these trucks are reasonably sought after these days and people often get rid of them when they have an issue and many of the issues that are unseen can cost a small fortune to fix too.

As for the pics - well I suppose you can all have a view on whether a van is good or not after 20 years but hey c`mon! Even I can see theres a fair bit of rust here and there - lets not kid ourselves.

As for the inaccuracy of ads - well if you get caught out on here they will have you alive. I for one think that`s great too because it protects those new to the forum from the unknowns of the costs of syncro ownership. Similarly if they see a nice one it is not unknown for them to coo over it but the facts are at twenty years old many are a bit giggered so the likelihood statistically will always be towards a vehicle thats tired and potentially badly maintained rather than a good one.

I will end on one point that is possibly the most important to me and why I am here - if you have come on a dedicated VW Syncro thread to find out about whats out there and to find out a vehicle is not what it may appear to be and read another folks view that its a dog then you came to seek answers and others opinions. If you dont like them you dont have to follow them either. And I value this forum and the points it raises and dont chose to follow all that I hear either.

This is the UK's Syncro Central. Its where all things T25/T3 syncro are offered up, praised to the heavens, torn to shreds or met with a

Any syncro that comes up for sale anywhere in the uk is likely to get flagged up on here and 'considered'; which is one of the functions of an enthusiasts group I feel. Much of what is said is said because of real insight and all of it is helpful if it makes prospective buyers ask the right questions and go into something like this with their eyes wide open. Mostly prospective buyers get practical help and straightforward honesty.

We should offer selling as a service and licence the Club80-90 Syncro seal of approval; for a small fee of course

Gentlemen,

I decided I'd best join the forum as I have been following your most interesting debate on the DOKA.
Living close to Guernsey I took the liberty of contacting the seller, whom I found very helpful and when asked answered all the relevant questions I asked.
Before deciding on bidding I asked for further photo's of the undersides and cills, these were provided and I found them to be very honest in what they showed.

Having assessed the photo's and spoken with the present owner I was able to form my own opinion, which is IMHO that an awful lot of work would be need to be carried out in order for it to reach a moderate standard.
What he was asking for is irrelavant, it's what someone is willing to pay that matters.
I decided it was not worth me putting an offer forward as my pockets aren't deep enough to fund the renovation required.

One last point , although the Channel Islands do not have an MOT, Jersey does have a very stringent check carried out on all vehicles being bought into the island by our DVS and this far surpasses the requirements of a UK MOT.

Keep up the debates guys, it's been most interesting :rofl

Crikey!

We'd better get the guys from CSI involved! :rofl

I think you will find, Its more like new users poining out to those that seem immune to the fact, that taking the rise out of vans for sale, or ringing people hundreds of miles away for a "giggle" is pretty damn childish Paddy! :ok
