drive shafts

Post by The Bishop »

My van is making a little bit of a knocking noise

1) going round right hand bend
2) slowing down with foot off accelerator

It was suggested it could be the drive shaft. Having read the Wiki it tells you how to test them and there does appear to be a little rotational play, not enough to see but you can feel it in your hands and there is a slight clunking at the outer end, presumably where the splines are. Is this amount of play normal or should there be absolutely no play?

Any other ideas?

Yep, CV joint. You could try repacking them with grease and swapping shafts so outer becomes the inner and vice versa. After that its new CV joints.
