Spunge behind window winder

Post by djhammy »

Hi Folks just replacing my front door panels and replacing the vapour barrier as we speak.

Behind the window winder or all around it is a square of dark sponge like material. This just desolves and most has already crumbled away.

I assume its there for a reason maybe absorbing moisture. Any ideas if i have to replace it and if so what would i use?

Cheers

Dave

HI thanks for that alas they are for the door opener not the window winder. Have mailed VW Heritage to see if they do that part.

They usually crumble away with age.

Why not make your own ones? An old piece of packaging foam just of the correct thickness needs shaping up and fitting, job done. All they do is help pad-out /support the door card once its fitted and you wont see it anyway; if you've got the vapour barrier fitted correctly then you wont get any water ingress. If you had done on the original, then the card would soon get wet and ruined. :)

I always thought that those little blocks of foam were to stop noise and rattling around the handle area.
Wouldn't pay money for one though! Upholstery or packaging foam, as NKC said, glued on with a bit of evostik.
