france passion ettiquette question....

probably a daft question, but.....
when you arrive at a france passion site, are there signs directing you where to park, (book mentions signs) or do you knock first before pulling into the signed bit? What if there is no answer, do you pitch and wait, or go away and come back? i'm thinking farmers might be out working when you arrive etc etc etc,

Good question, in the booklet it suggests that you go introduce yourself.

Park where you intend to stay and someone will either come to you or you go to the door. Take your card with you (we've never been asked for it) and just say hello 'Bonjour. Ca va?' or what ever it is written down, and the owner generally just points to where you are and explains what they do on the farm/vineyard or if there's a few people there they have a time (usually 7 o'clock) when they have a mass explaining/tasting/buying frenzy.

Most places are VERY relaxed about it, some aren't about anyway if it's during the day and they'll cat ch up with you sooner or later. If they've nothing left to sell some never even bother to come and say hello ... that's happened twice with us.

Thanks Ian, thats good to know. Wasnt sure if it would be seen as cheeky to just park up if no-one was around, but if its the done thing then I will feel better about it

I received my book and card the other night.
Now I just have to get my head around the book layout - it's a bit quirky.

We have a vague route planned but must wait until September.

If they are very busy they may not want to be messing about with visitors, there is usually a 'No visitors between XX and XX' in the F.P. book ... some don't receive visitors on a sunday for e.g. . We've never been turned away yet.

You'll usually see a small round mosaic-stylee sign nailed to a post where you are to park.

I must say how good the France passion scheme was. We had 5 nights in France on the way to a wedding near Barcelona and we only paid for a campsite once. We stayed at 3 france passion sites, one cider farm (we never saw the owners sadly), one horse riding farm and a vinyard, as well as a free aires in Aubettere-Sur-Dronne as the neighbouring minicipal site was flooded due to the Dronne bursting it's banks a few days before we got there.

The owners of the vinyard even opened their wine tasting room for us

I would highly recommend the France Passion scheme.
