Whats missing?!

Post by cms273 »

Tinkering with my 2.0 Aircooled on Saturday as it wasnt running right (very uneven and kept cutting out) I noticed that both carbs have a small length of rubber tube coming plugged onto a small outlet / inlet which has been blocked off - one with a rivet and one with a screw :? see pics below (apologies for the quality was taken on my phone)

After much tinkering with the and head scratching I got the engine running smoothly and with out further bother by blanking off another small rubber pipe at the back of the air filter box. There is two small gauge plastic pipes that run from the front of the air filter box one goes back to the pipe setup at the right handside rear of the box, and the other is just blanked off with yet another rivet but does seem to go towards the dizzy?! Am i right in assuming that this should be the vacuum / advance for the proper dizzy?

As I've blocked this small pipe behind the air box, will this cause any probs in the near future?

Any advice greatfully received!

They're vacuum ports.

With the original carb and ignition setup the one on the left carb would have been connected to the retard side of the distributor vacuum advance-retard unit. The one on the right carb is unused and is blanked off with a rubber cap.

Do you have the original double vacuum distributor?
