I've just bought a new set of standard rear springs for my T25 Aircooled 1982 camper and I can't believe that the shock bolts are so expensive. I've not bought any yet as I want to know if they are taking the mick!

£24 for one M12 x 1.5 x 65 bolt
Can't I just buy the same from my local steel works or am I missing something about this bolt?

Re: Shock bolt prices
Just found these http://www.cbperformance.com/catalog.asp?ProductID=475" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
They mention 8.8 steel...so basically I can get the same 8.8 M12 bolts at my local steelworks for under £2
I've heard the expression you get what you pay for ...but that is ridiculous.

Re: Shock bolt prices
As a storekeeper we buy them all the time ... probably 70 or 80p each, as always try your local fasteners supplier be warned many have a £5 minimum order charge. A bolt is a bolt is a bolt ... which is why on Vagcat VW include the size, thread pitch and tensile rating as well as a part number

Re: Shock bolt prices
Many thanks for that...I bought them from my local steel suppliers called S J Andrews down here in Cornwall
4 x M12 x 65 H/T bolts £0.97
4 x M12 Metric Nylock nuts for £0.28
Then I was charged £100 by my local garage for fitting my new gearbox which took them no more than an hour to fit
Swings and roundabouts I guess!
