Grrr can't get the little bugger off.
The bolt on the top of the shock is now turning nicely but I need to hold the central rod still with a 6mm spanner. All is good unil I get a couple of milemetre from the end when I cant get any purchase on the 6mm rod. Lifting the shock there does not appear to be enough room to get a mole grip in there.
Any ideas?
I'm wondering if the square top needs a little bit of filing as the nut tightens up towards the end.

I used a nut splitter to break the barsteward off
You'll need a replacement and they are fine thread NOT the standard thread

Re: Undoing to mount bolt on shock
I hate to say this as it sounds very brutal but a pair of mole grips on the VERY top of the damper rod as close to the threads as posible. Important thing being a part of the damper rod that will not reach the seal and will reside under the bump stop. Use some heavy card in the jaws to minimize any marks. Obviously take great care not to mark the damper rod any lower or it will end up damaging the seal.
I would normally recommend an air gun or ratchet but I know that there just isn't the space...

I can't remember exactly and it's 3 years ago so don't quote me but they are something like M10 x 1.25 Nyloc nuts.

M10 1.25 is what was suggested today so that may be correct thanks.

Have them in stock. I've got to get some so could get some extra and post them to you if you are stuck.
