Post by stuwhitfeild »

Hi,

Im looking at upgrading the interior bulbs on my caravelle - what size are the festoon bulbs and is the switch to LED worthwhile?

thanks in advance

The main interior light on T25's is 12v 10w. I believe them to be 42mm length.

Unsure if the Caravelle is different, but on my Joker model, there is just the one "factory fitted" interior light on the one side, and it isn't very bright!

There's some on eBay: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2x8-SMD-42mm- ... 35b6e1183b" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; which contain 8 LED's, never tried them but I would have thought it would be a lot brighter than a standard 10w bulb :D

There is only one 'disadvantage' that I discovered when I swapped to LED replacements (and it only happens in some cases). Because the filament festoon lamps give light in every direction and the LED ones are unidirectional, when the switch on the courtesy light is moved from 'ON' to 'OFF' or 'DOOR SWITCHED', sometimes the movement of the switch terminal will rotate the lamp in one direction but not back again when the switch is returned to it's previous position. Not a problem with the original filament lamp but this can mean that after only a couple of switch operations the LEDs are rotated so that they shine either up or down rather than straight out of the courtesy light 'window'.
Not difficult to fix, you just have to used long nose pliers to gently bend the switched and fixed terminals so that the fixed terminal grips the lamp more firmly than the moveable switched one thereby preventing the rotation from occurring and saving you from having to repeatedly remove the light to physically realign the lamp.

And take the fuse out first

Fitted these today-they look like they will be bright! attempted to sort out the dash lights but I'll post another thread for that as they have been a nightmare :(
