Do we have any Italian Syncro connections?

Post by jes*b »

My friend lives in the Dolomites - this nice looking van was spotted at the bottom of a ski run this week (very tail end of season) Not a vehicle he's seen before (its a very small and 'local' region ) but might be a very useful contact to make in the mountains so I thought I might try and track down the owner. Any ideas? Italian syncro club?

Is that a 'syncro' sticker near the rear panel vents or more vents?

Would be great to make connections out there, I loved the Dolomites national park.

Pretty sure Jed mentioned a sniff of some old WW2 tracks up in the mountains too.....

i'm sure jed mentioned that to.. wife is sh!t scared of mountains, so not to sure if we will go to the Dolomites. She's already worried about the st bernards pass  But we do need to find 3-4 overnight stops. rough areas of; Aosta, Florence area, and then on the way back north of perugia then west of Cuneo. Google earth is my new best friend

Yeh, I became friends with a very nice German couple who were traveling in this van when we were traveling through Slovenia,

The fella was a war buff and I think it was WW1 he as interested in and was visiting historical sights in the area. Anyway while speaking with them one evening we were talking about what route we took down to Croatia and when we mentioned that we went through The Dolomites he asked if we had driven any of the WW1 mountain trails. Apparently you can drive some amazing trails built back then to get secret war stuff about the place and I always ment to look these up when I got back but I had forgotten about it until now. I did do a bit of walking and noticed a few of the tracks had been driven but I dont know who by or why and if indeed you are allowed to legally, propper mountains though in that area.

I visit a lot in summer and winter - have walked a few of the tracks, am thinking - make a Syncro connection and hook the Syncro guys up with my friend who's been there 10 years to do some research / planning on our behalf .

Maggiolino club.it or something similar is the BIG Italian VW club and iirc they have a camper and a Syncro "chapter". Sorry I can't double check right now, but it may be a starter for someone else to have a look from
:ok
What a long strange trip it's been

Apparently there are some awesome "mountaineering" trails through the dolomites. They were impossible to move troops through, so they put in steel cables and very narrow paths. You clip on with a pig tail and off you go...

like thishttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sw5Qw1Wc ... ure=relmfu

looks like fun :D
