It says the lifting range is 200 to 390mm. Does this mean from the floor or from the top of the bottle?

foot on the bottom, under the jacl , load spreading at the top and the lift range is the total from ground
ie 200 mm before jacking but make your foot to compensate for the van height with less tyres wall depth

I used two pieces of 19 mm Multiplex Plywood for the base.

For the top I have two pieces again 19mm ply, approx 100 x 100 mm.
The lower one has a hole cut through the middle so that it sits over the end of the jack.
The second piece is glued and screwed on top of the lower piece.
You end up with a socket that sits over the top of the jack.

Food for thought and would work just as well with a bottle jack

I've got some spare 12mm plywood bits at home. Suppose I could use 3 pieces together for the base and 3 for the top spreader

It would work for a bottle jack.
I would recommend using Multiplex plywood 19 mm, go to the like of BnQ and look in the scrap bins or have a word with the woodmonkey.
