water leak top up bottle red light flashinhg

Post by bluket25 »

Help went on my first trip away the weekend.bristol to woolacombe. I use my van every day and
have noticed sometimes the red light flashes on temp gage . If i turn the ignition off then turn over again sometimes its stops flashing. Lately tho it stays on. I keep an eye on water levels very rearly have to top up. Well set off Friday with red light flashing on temp gage the temp gage does seem to rise i bit faster than it used to but very rearly goes over half way. Well got to woolacombe and parked up and noticed water leaking from a pressure hole on top of the top up bottle can only persume the water had pressurized. Is this normal. Am worred

Though a variety of electrical problems can cause the temp LED to flash unecessarily the first priority is checking the cooling system itself . I would replace/test the thermostat if susepct, bleed and refill the coolant sytem and check the Dalek cap is functioning correctly ((there is thread regards checking the Dalek). It may be something simple such as a faulty Dalek cap allowing coolant to fill the expansion tank to the brim - every time you travel up an incline the coolant escapes and coolant is lost.

Odd, how full is your top up when cold and when hot, it does of course have a vent but mainly for its function and pressure eq, as it wouldnnt work if it was sealed,
the flashing red is as you know correct when first starting and after a short while goes out, first thimngs first is the question on level in the bottle and we go from there

Well i checked water and oil before i set off so i know the exspansion tank was full and the top up tank was full to the max line this was with cold water. When i got to my destination it was pumping boiling water out the pressure hole vent on top up tank. Enough to leave a water trail thu camp site and a puddle once i stoped. I always keep an eye on temp gage so i know it didn't go over the half way mark. When i checked water levels the next day as i knew it must need toping up. The exspansion tank was full and the top up tank was beween max and min. ? Something is going on. Ill go read thred on darlik cap and i think ill put a new thermostat and flush and refill coolant system as i have never done it since ive had it always just top up........
