Dizzy vaccum unit

Post by CovKid »

Would normally put this in 'wanted' section but its more urgent. Has anyone got, laying in their junk pile, a working vaccum unit for a bug or bay (points dizzy). Have a Beetle I'm trying to sort and do not want to be stuck with having to chuck a 009 in there. I ordered a new vac unit in and it was faulty and nowhere near as well made as what was originally fitted. I used to have piles of odds and ends like that but have no way to store it where I live. Its the two-screw type although if pushed I could drill out a four or three screw type.

Can you help Covkid out here? No prob covering cost for it.

Should fit shouldn't it Aidan? I really want to get this little Beetle running like a sewing machine again. You know how awful they are on 009s. Dizzy itself is pristine - just lacks the vac unit. Belongs to old lady - mint condition and she depends on it.

I don't know owt about it compatability wise, I was told it was off a 1600 or a cu but I checked the part number and it matches a 2litre type 4, came to me as part payment on something I supplied, I'll have to remember where the f it is mind, it's in a cardboard box in the workshop, along with 100 other cardboard boxes  I did test the vacuum bit and it seemed to work ok, then I started looking for some new points for it as it had been stored a bit damp somewhere in someone's shed and that was as far as it went before the big move

Its a shame as the dizzy is perfect but I'm beginning to think this may be the only solution Aidan:

At least its NOT a 009.... :D

At that price I might get one to replace my 009!

Cov. What's the part number of the beetle dizzie you need the can for? I think I've got 2 or 3 dizzies from various VW's gathering duct in the garage. I check tonight of they're still there.

Just had a poke about in the garage. The only dizzie with a vac unit that offers any resistance to a good suck is fitted on a 0231 168 001. Google suggests it could be off a 1600 Beetle from 12/72 onwards? The can has a two screw fitting, the one on the left end is higher that the one on the right if that makes sense? If it sounds like it might fit the bill PM me.

Thank you for taking the time to hunt. I ran out of time and had to order another at yet a further £30

Runs great now anyway.
