Reimo pop top bed. Pics plans or experience?

Post by redsnapper »

Got a van recently with a Reimo pop top but it seems to be missing the bed component!

This is where it stands at the moment.

Looks like the extension that turns the above into a bed should just be a bit of board that drop into side gutters, and then just add foam?

Be interested to see any pictures or plans that anyone has or hear any experience from camping life.

Other advice such as measurements, best foam or board type to make this complete all very welcome. Doesn't look to be more than 2 or 3 inches clearance between base and roof once the top is down

Also puzzled how you get up into these roofs once bed is extended, do the boards stop short of the front and you clamber in through the gap towards the driver's end, or do you get up then slide the boards? Having never seen one complete or in action, a bit hard to picture. Please enlighten me.. :D

May also be tempted to just put foam on what is there and sleep kids up top, but would need to fashion some sort of guard to prevent them from diving onto those below in the dead of night. Anyone come up with a solution for that? Problem seems to be a gate could only clamp to the bottom as rest is canvas and not sure it would be strong enough...

Hi , I don't have a reimo roof but one like a devon, ie hinged along the side and opens the other way to yours , however I would imagine that the beds are similar. During the day mine has a perminately fixed section to the rear of the camper and the rest is open to give you head room for standing, and at night, another section pulls accross to complete the bed .There is a gap left of say a couple of feet at towards the front of the camper that enables you to climb up . I lift the kids up there an if I get up there I stand on the buddy seat and 'hop up' the gap at the end is in line with the cooker which means that you still have head room to cook even if the kids are asleep up there :D :D I hope this helps?? Am thinking of making a small ladder so I don't have to keep lifting them up and down all day as they love to sit up the end in 'their den'.

Thanks for your reply, kind of how I pictured it and good to know they work on a similar principle. Good info on where bed ends and how to post the kids up! Will keep searching for more info too

Still haven't got a final solution for this yet or solved the puzzle. Is the bed extended when the roof is down and you can fold it up when the roof is up for cooking space?

Sounds silly, but if nobody has photos, could someone draw me a diagram!

Why not pop along to a show, you're bound to find someone who's got something similar and will let you have a good nosey?

A positive attitude may not solve all your problems but it will p.iss off enough people to make it worth the effort

My Remio had a two piece hinged section that unfolded leaving a gap for access , ( /\___ ) was about 2/3 bed section and 1/3 access irrc. it rested on a couple of fixed bits of wood fasten to the steel roof.
as for the foam , it was high dense foam only about 4 or 5mm think , in two parts , one for the rear , and a small section for the pull out . Suppose a memory foam topper could be used.

Sorry for the bad description but it was a few years ago now
