1.9 DG Pierburg Choke Wiring

Post by shirelets »

1986 1.9DG. Have read a few articles on wiring of Pierburg automatic choke, carb pre heat and shut off solenoid. Many reckon that these have 12V feed whenever ignition is on, whereas my Haynes wiring diagram and some other responses suggest that the automatic choke (and maybe the preheat) are only energised when the manifold heater is on, i.e. controlled by the coolant temperature sensor. Does anyone know which interpretation is correct please?

the idle shut off and choke are live whenever the ignition is on, the heater is thermo controlled via the relay in the black box in the engine bay LHF

Thanks - that's how it appeared to be originally wired, but I'd be thinking that maybe auto choke needed disabling by removing 12V when engine up to temp, rather than have 12V all the time. Anyhow, that's how I'll wire it and thanks for your input.

The Haynes manual is incorrect as it does show the choke heater element being controlled by the thermoswitch but, as Mocki says, it is a 12V ignition feed and loops off the fuel cut off solenoid connector.
