Vatcan goes off, I just thought you might like to know this
I got mine out when I was tarting up my new (to me) propex unit. It had "set" inside the bottle despite the cap being securely on. I bought it about 18 months ago and only used it once ! = Very annoying
Silicone RTV gasket stuff does it too, as does the expensive "SuperGlue" I use when building my model aircraft.
as does sikaflex, TIgerseal, Polyurethane glue...... its very annoying.
Sometimes I put the bottle into a ziplock bag, suck the air out and seal it, if think I won't use it for a while. And if you throw a handful of dry rice or pasta in there too, it helps a bit.
Yes it does, thats why I always recommend Vactan is bought in smaller bottles. Shelf life is about one year. Tends to last longer in cool conditions too.

I just binned 2 litres of it
I did find though, that the vactan used to flake off if too much applied. So I switched to dinotrols aerosol version of it.
Thats the way Jonno. By the way, liberal coats of Vactan are not the way to do it. It only needs to be 40 microns thick to convert and protect - ie very thin coat. More does not do a better job.
One litre does 8-9 square metres!!! If you've got that much rust, sell it
Oh bugger, I purchased some last summer, and its remained unused, still in its bottle. I did noticed last time I was down in our basement that the top half of the bottle is brown now, with the lower half white. Please tell me I can simply shake the bottle and use?
Shelf life of a year? Bugger me. 500ml bottle too

anything that 'sets' as a deliberate part of the process it performs is going to dry out or go hard once air forms more than an insignificant proportion of the overall container contents.
Although with Vactan and Ku-Rust and similar products, just dipping the brush back in the bottle you just used to apply some to the rust with will effectively shag the entire bottle.
I've had a bottle of KU-Rust since 2009 - still good
