Are seats on swivel bases meant to be adjustable?

Post by kebrooks »

The van we have recently bought has swivel front seats fitted. For those of us slightly vertically challenged (short or with little legs) should it still be possible to slide these seats forward so we can reach the pedals easier? My husband thinks that all swivel seats are at a fixed distance as ours don't move. Or is it possible to have swivel seats and forward/backward adjustment and the person that put our seats in just didn't do this??

Any help greatly received x

They should slide forward in the normal way, do you have standard seats? The lever is on the side of the seat if you do.

Let's just put it this way - our Westy swivels slide fore-and-aft no problem at all.

My money's on the runners just being clagged with muck & lint.

To be honest, we don't even seem to have a lever!

But good to know that they should be able to. I just couldn't find any info on whether they should and hubby thought maybe they didn't. It just may be that we have had some old seats put in.

The front seats in my van were very difficult to move forward and backwards: patience, a bit of brute force, and some grease improved things a good deal.

Others have found items trapped in the seat runners, that 'rubbish' jams the seat in its runner. One person reminds us that grease (my solution to the problem) is not a good idea- it traps dirt.

So I think the word adjustable in this context is relative.

You might well need to replace your battery at some stage. That's a good opportunity to free up your seat a little.

The van is at the garage at the moment having the electrics checked over. When it's back i will psot some piccies. The seats aren't the originals.

Thanks for the info though everyone and yes one of the seats does have to come off to put in our new leisure battery so we will have to have a good look.

Mine had different seats fitted, with the runners ever so slightly wider than the standard T25 runners. When slack, the seats would slide quite easily, but when bolted down tight, the runners tilt slightly and bind up. The driver's side would move with brute force, but the passenger side wouldn't budge for love nor money. They have now been skipped as i undertake a full on resto, and will be replaced with something else once i get around to rebuilding the van.
