Oil, oil everywhere!

Post by Reimotim »

Hey folks,

My 1.6td has become rather oily recently. Ona recent trip it has splattered the back of the vehicle with oil and is now dripping all over the drive.

The oil seems to be coming from the air intake side, but it's hard to tell exactly where it is coming from.

Is there a known problem or does anyone know a likely cause.

As always, thank you for your time and valuable advice. :ok

Crank case oil seal will do this, mine was terrible on my old 1.6 and I noticed a lot of others with the same symptoms.

Is that a straight forward (and not too expensive) fix?

I am not a Diesel expert but this certainly could be a blocked or otherwise faulty breather pipe.
iirc, the Diesels have a more complex breather system than the simple "rubber pipe from cam cover to air filter case" that other (petrol) in line 4's have.

Someone will be a long soon to elaborate, but that would be my starting point.

oil sender on the back of the head can leak past its internal diaphragm.
Oil comes out through the plastic cap, the same place as the electrical tab connector comes through.
And there can be a lot of it

All sorted, oil feed to the turbo was leaking and the oil cooler / filter assembly needed tightening.

Glad that's sorted!

Thanks for all your advice.
