Thermostat housing leak

Post by Taw Cottage »

Hi Guys

1990 2.1 ss engine

Have a coolant leak from the thermostat housing...........not sure exactly where, I think the housing is plastic, so there could be a crack somewhere.

Is there a usual suspect here, as in leak from a hose joint or is it just a case of replacing the housing whatever.

Any tips would be much appreciated.

might not be the housing might just be a joint.
It's rare if the housing cracks, usually where the hoses attach leaks

Cheers Kev, I know there's no leak from the joint between the top and the housing, so where do you think I should start?

yes that's the best place to start
the O rings often stop sealing as they get more brittle and the clip weakens

According to my Haynes manual, there are 2 sensors, a coolant temperature sensor(fuel injection) and a coolant temperature gauge sensor. Should I look at both :?
