Interior lights........

Post by Bert1985 »

We are looking at adding a couple of interior lights in the back of the van - we have stripped all the interior and insulation out and there are four holes where possible factory fitted lights could be fitted above the sliding doors - they are larger than the ones which go in the front - does anyone know what they are called or where we would be able to source any from - Kind regards.

:ok

I think this is one of those occasions when a couple of pictures might help. The VW rear courtesy light positions are just behind the sliding door; you can just see mine to the right of the fluorescent in this picture. There is (probably) another aperture in the metalwork directly opposite on the other side.

I have those on both our vans (one is an ex caravelle) and on both, they are the same size as the front ones (as per Brickwerks ones) In fact they are std VW fitment as used on many of their 80's cars, our Scirocco ones are the same.

Are yours definitely larger than your front ones ?

They are the bog standard VW ones. As said, Brickwerks do them. You don't buy an LED version, you buy the standard one and retro fit LED lamps in them. Type '12v LED festoon lamp' into ebay - come in several sizes and numbers of LED's.

Remember that they are polarity sensitive - if they don't work when you fit them just turn them around

And if you are going to buy LED bulbs to fit into the std VW interior lights, consider the choice of "bright white" or "warm white" ones. I choose the warm white ones because the bright white ones are a bit harsh looking and not "cosy" at all.
