Thanks Billy an excellent point...
I will give that a go, after all I really wanted to use it! :) ...I was wondering about the battery sitting direct on the shelf. Especially after finding rusty bits that I need to sort and patch up before the final-final fix. Having the tray there will help the battery gain a solid fitting..minimise the risk of movement. The tray as you know has what I would describe "battery rails/slots for it to sit nice and snug against..plus an all ready tapped out thread for the clamp and bolt...

I will be contacting you in the near future as I understand your a breaker. I have been toying with ideas on creating a rear engine access hatch and at some point will be looking at sourcing a complete lower section rear end...For now though (where I have chopped the back).. I am plumming for a basic stich up..so I can get an mot etc...just need to get up and running..first and think about experiments another day...

Hello
Weather has stopped play for the last two days..really really miffed..howling a gail, freezing, rain.....so nothing to report other than I am in the process of ordering by final coolant pipe bits. Looking at a club 80-90 links on the best coolant and anti freeze..oil/water temp gauges and I am hoping to retrace a link I found on 1.6JX engine and associated electrics...I would like to ask nicley for a copy of his/her PDF. The just kampers one from their booklet is impossible for me to read its not clear enough and I have difficulties being a specs wearer.

I am currently suffering from not doing anything to my van withdrawals...it isn't nice... :(

That raised hatch and exhaust look remarkably SA-like :D

Thanks for that Neil..will have a good look at it when I have a spare minute or two..might even see about contacting him..ask about the flywheel and adaptor plate...an alternative source for the future.

Done a little yesterday...doesn't seem much..but the jobs I did were quite fiddly and time consuming. Plan for the day was to concentrate on finishing the main coolant pipe connections..to the waterpump and thermostat respectivley..I wanted to sort the battery and take on board what Billy mentioned about the Tray and using it.
First I doctored the battery tray..thanks for that Billy..needed to patch a hole in the air vent void first and let that dry before fixing it in..I will have to do that another day..ran out of light.
Measured up and cut away..
Image
Battery sits nicely on it..suprised at my stright line cuts.."hacksaw Tom"
Image
I decided after several minutes of toying around with how my main coolant pipes were going to sit that I would remove the bogit and scarper header tank bracket and do this...

I took the large bracket off and turned it on its head and refitted..the plan is to clamp the stainless piece with spigot to the underneath and in the short term attach the silencer to it as well...looking carefully you can see the silencer bracket attachment trying to poke through the cloth protecting it..runs inline with a already drilled hole..
Image
I then got to work on the Main coolant pipe connections....

After several dry fixes and head scratching minutes..I took into account a little flexibility when carrying out future maintenance/alterations and more importantly the "bending stresses" on the main PLASTIC coolant pipe I have connected too....here is a flick of the Water pump side taking shape...I used a 1M length of 38mm ID flexible reinforced Hose..good stuff too..connected to the end a 38mm Spigot and 38mm to 45mm reducer. From the 38mm to 45mm reducer the stainless piece of coolant pipe (with "refill/top up the system" spigot)..

I then connected a 35mm to 38mm reducer to the water pump together with spigot...on the other end of the stainless section end shows a 38mm to 45mm reducer..

another view...
Image
I need to buy a 38mm 90 degree elbow and spigot to complete the water pump side....

Time to focus on the thermostat side..the red stuff in case your wondering is a high temp trade silicone sealent I used as a secondary backup..
Image
All nicely fitted with a swooping bend to suit...I did refit the air filter housing just to make sure...
Image
I plan to use the bottom of the filterhousing bracket as a second fixing point..I have cable tied the plastic pipe close to the connection..nice and tight...not the best flick..I do wear glasses and its sometimes not easy getting that crisp shot..

Now to save my embarresment of previously posting a bogit and scarper header tank bracket...here is the plan and I feel somewhat happier with it..Please remember I will be building a new engine cover and you won't see it....
I am thinking about this for the time being...using my recycled diesel air filter bracket strap and scrap angled piece...I might plant it as shown in the flick..However, I am thinking about my ignition coil and associated electrics...so could consider fitting it on the offside of the bay..need to give it head space and practice dry fits first..one of the pleasures of doing your own conversion..So long as I don't overthink and wrap myself up in confusion..It will work out... :)

And to finish off (for the time being of course back to work tomorrow)..I tried out an experiment and fastened a bolt in a hole where the existing diesel engine mount used to live..
Image
You may think this odd...you would be right..it is odd..until you see what affect it had on centralising the silencer... 8)

Thanks for looking..

Hello again
Been busy over the last few days. First I bought some fluids from Europarts which I planned to use, including coolant, engine oil, card fluid and DOT 4 Clutch/Brake...here is a flick..the coolant pipe pieces were from AP Motor Store.. A big thanks to this thread for info on G12...

Image
First port of call was finishing off the main coolant pipes..
Image
I then got to work on fitting the header tank using the recycled diesel air filter bracket and a lush piece of stainless I salvaged from the scrap bin at work..

after a bit of tinkering

completed the connections and ended up with a solid fix..well chuffed..here is a few picks showing my handy work

Image
I then looked at it and looked at it again..and not for the first time came to the decision that it wasn't practical. Especially when gaining access to the electrics (nearside black box in engine bay).. :idea
So I did this instead..and I am defo happy with this set up..
