Im after some answers regarding a jx to aaz upgrade.
1 is it worth it, they push ou similar bhp but is the torque increase better? At the moment when I reach a hill its like some-ones put the brakes on and I have to change down to 3rd even 2nd, is this alot better with an aaz?
2 how is the fuel econmy from a 1.6 to a 1.9?
3 does anyone know of anyone in the south that does drive in/out exchange?
sorry for the questions that have been asked a million times
There's some good stuff on the brickyard - http://www.brick-yard.co.uk/VehicleSpec ... diesel.htm
I thought about going this route but went the 2.0 petrol way - no question about the power and as I only drive Ca. 5000km per year the extra fuel costs don't worry me too much.
Yes the Aaz is better - but you would be disappointed if you changed a running JX to a Aaz adding up the costs. It's not £1000 better. (unless it's a hobby and you have spare cash - then its a lovely project that can give good results ).
This is my dilemma, the jx is working.
Ringo and even Baxter has said stick with a good jx. Now do I get mine st up correctly or do they all struggle on hills?
Mm cheers for the offer, is you aaz standard or modified?
I'm a bit out of my depth with all that, I'm sure a lot of mechanics would be too!.
Ok so my 1st thing is to do a good service and set up.
Does anyone know of a good vw mechanic in hastings?
My engine smokes on start up for a couple of mins so I'm assuming its ok. If its buggered then ill go down the aaz route.
If i had a 2WD and had a choice, i would go from jx to 2.0 petrol. They are pretty similar on fuel from what you read and are nowhere near as rare as a good AAZ. Unless of course money is no option, then TDI and gearbox rebuild

My Aaz went like a rocket but it still slowed down on hills. Yes it's got more poke but not loads more.
Even if you put an Aaz in it can still break!
Just enjoy it. Service it well and enjoy your van. Believe me, there are a lot slower engines than a jx. Mpg is awesome too.

*unless you have spare cash and spare time - and a string desire to tinker. Then go for it because changing engines is ace. However, judging by the fact you're after a mechanic, that's possibly not your bag.
Cheers Ringo, I've done loads of mechanical stuff before just not on diesels, so it feels like new ground to me. While its working I'll leave well alone and enjoy the many gear changes.
It's good to hear the different views but I don't want to go down the petrol route.
