I have had a coolant leak for ages and finally got to the bottom of it today after removing the engine tray. On startup coolant is leaking from the bottom of the water pump so looks like more expense

Well fixed my seeping water pump with chemical weld last weekend. Only a temp fix for now till I convince her indoors that I need to spend yet more money on a new water pump!

Bit harsh....... Clearly I am driving an unsafe van then - not! Like I said temp fix only for now but pay day today

replace it before the bearing gives way and you lose all your coolant. they are pretty easy toy replace and not too expensive.
gsf do a cheaper version £27 or £47, not too sure on the quality of the cheaper one though. ive just fitted one, its lasted over a week already

the newer system is an easier job but both are doable, just take your time and dont have bits left over at the end, i would put a bucket or something under the van to catch any coolant

Like Daz say's replace the pump asap ... running a van with a bodged repair is asking for trouble. If the pump bearings fail (the pump already has remember and water is flowing in and around the bearing) the engine could overheat and seize very easily and who knows where, like in the fast lane of the motorway ....

Knackered engine is £1,000 and up, a pump is ~£40.... see what I mean ?

Not a fan of GSF but they were doing OM pumps with the VW ground out for a reasonable price.

Thanks all - van is booked in for a new water pump next week along with a new fanbelt at the same time

No worries will let you know, but also getting 2 new front tyres and new rear shoes - looking at around £300ish!

If you can wait until after easter then I got a good quality early water pump from brickwerks

I just paid £95 for new pump and fitting. Thats cheaper than a new engine.
