Outer engine mount renewal

Post by AngeloEvs »

O.K., I forgot to check the mounts when replacing the exhaust and the outer ones are fubared. I can only find one thread regards changing the mounts and it differs from the Haynes manual. Haynes manual says raise the engine a tad and the thread says lower the engine a few inches and remove the engine support beam. Which is correct/best?

I looked at the outer mounts and the OS one seems straightforward enough but the NS one looks as though the Water pump pulley could be in the way of accessing the nut. Nothing in the Wiki so guessing this is a fairly straightforward job but best to get the advice of the experts..... :D

I just supported the engine where it should be and unbolted the whole mounting bar assembly ... with the silencer off of course.

lol.....yep a bit of a numpty not doing it while the silencer was off. Anyway, with silencer fitted ... the two outer mountings are off. I was more concerened about accessing the top mounting nut under the waterpump pulley. Mind you, getting the old ones out was easy as they had separated so still have to fit the replacements whem they arrive.

Helps to have a long 3/8ths extension, universal joint and single hex 13mm socket....or one of those 13mm sockets with built in flex joint.

Thanks California Dreamin, as it turned out my neighbour was in his garage and he had one. If he hadn't, I would have relied on your post and nipped down to my local motorfactors to get one.

Probably easiest to remove the silencer...

What are the inners like? They might not be shagged totally just yet, but they won't be far off. Do them all while you're in there.

I did it Ian's way, too - bottle jack under the sump, and remove the engine bar from below. All with the wheels on the ground, no need to jack/ramp.
