I am a new owner of a hi-top T25 D reg Karisma hi-top 2 berth conversion 1.9 petrol water-cooled van.
When I start the van it runs very high and carries on with high revs well into a journey. It has an automatic choke.
A non-specialist garage recommended getting a manual choke conversion for this van and another garage who does campervans recommended getting it to a campervan carburettor specialist.
I know carburettors are very expensive and I'm getting an inkling that this is a common problem with this sort of van.
It's had a new engine recently (before I got it) and has only done around 5000 miles on it. I'm pretty sure it had a new carb when the engine was fitted...
What's the best thing to do about the sticking automatic choke?
Any advice?

The choke on that engine is normally operated manually by simply pressing down on the accelerator pedal briefly prior to starting the engine. Once up to temp, blip the pedal again to turn it off.

Thankyou - I have tried the blip thing but doesn't work really. Sometimes but it's inconsistent.

Your autochoke may need adjustment.
In cold weather...
Starting the engine is done like this.
depress the throttle once or twice this sets the fast idle cam.
turn the key
do not use the accelerator.
once the engine starts the engine will run at a high rpm (2000)
blip the throttle and it should settle to a still high 1500.
drive away and after about 5 to 8 mins the engine should be ticking over at 950 rpm
to adjust the fast idle position locate the three screws holding the autochoke housing on
here it is on the right of the carb

you can see the range of adjustment here

turn the housing anticlockwise an eighth of a turn then try it

Makes me feel a bit more confident that I don't need a new carb or anything! I hope.

Thanks I will. I'm just waiting for a rubber filler neck collar thing as the fuel is leaking out through the perished rubber when filling up to top. Will fix that first then get onto choke...
