Fuel return on Pierburg carb

Post by dansimpson »

I need to disconnect the fuel return on my 1.9 dg carb, does anyone know if the fuel return is just a split feed from the pump, ie is there any pressure relief valve/system in the carb. Ideally I need to tee off after the pump, with one pipe going to the carb inlet and another joining to the fuel return pipe.

Would this weaken the flow to the carb and starve it of fuel?

Cheers

Dan

I have a spare carb in the shed (for learning stuff) and it looks like a bog standard float and needle arrangement. However I think the fuel may take the easiest path and might result in fuel shortage at the carb. Easy to "try out" though (and put back to standard for a re-think).

Here is a thought, you could put a restriction in the return pipe (experiment) to create a little pressure in the feed to the carb ? I wonder if one of those air adjusting valves they use on fishtanks are petrol proof, nah, probably asking for trouble...

Cheers for that idea, make the carb the easiest route, maybe I could just put a small length of reduced size fuel pipe?
Will try it out (next week after Dubaid) and let you know how I get on.
