Kev,

Really appreciate the response - thought i had this sorted, it's been fine for a month!

I presume the coil earth is the small wire that is bolted to the bodywork along with the band that holds the coil in place? I've given it a squirt of WD40, but i presume it's best to take it off and give it a clean with a bit of glass paper. Are there any other contact points that will need cleaning

Thanks, Gareth

bright metal to metal to be sure.
It should be a separate screw nothing to do with it's mount.
the coil has quite a few wires running to and from it... they too should be inspected for damage and corrosion.

Have you tried changing the ECU yet?

Thanks again,I'll check the earth as soon as i get home.

Don't think i've changed the ECU. I've changed the unit that is bolted to the side of the engine bay in the back left corner, which is connected to the coil and (I think) the distributor, but I was told that was an ignition amplifier??? Are they one and the same :?

couldn't really find an earth for the coil, but have cleaned up the one on the top of the engine, just below and to the left of the distributor (this had the earth cable from the ignition amp), and one that comes from the loom going to the rear nearside lighting cluster which is earthed under the top bolt of the coil mounting band.

Van started after cleaning second earth!!!!! must say i'm not convinced this is it sorted, what do people think? could this be the solution??? any thoughts would be appreciated.

Cheers, Gareth
