Volksworld Show

So, that was my first VW show. It seems to be the only one that doesn't clash with other (non-VW) events I do. Shame to see the T25 so under represented. Whilst one would expect there to be a majority of splits and bays, I think I only saw one T25 in the show area (not counting a rusty Devon, not exactly flying the flag for our favourite van).

Wasn't a big fan of alot it being indoors, although if it had been raining I'm sure I'd think otherwise. And was also disappointed how few 'specials' there were. I like seeing the unusual stuff, like ambulances, fire trucks or even just pickups. I think I saw *so* many regular splits they, for an afternoon, became a bit dull (rather than an object of desire which is what they normally are for me).

Still, it was a nice day out, lovely weather and I picked up some replacement bits I needed, and the Richard Copping book on the 'T3'. On the way home I stumbled across three vans the same colour as mine. Bit weird having to reduce one's waving to *only* matching vans.

I did a quick run around with my camera gear before leaving. Sadly too rushed to give the camping a good going through, which is where I'm sure I'd have found some good T25s.

So, it's with apologies that the photos don't have a single shot of the *best* Transporter... Next time, I promise!

Well - it was good to get out to the show. My family have been i'll, so not quite the outing I was hoping for. As my mate said - its far easier when the goodlady buys into the project !
Anyway we had a good run over, M4,M3,M25 all keeping up with the traffic thanks to Tdi Power.
Clocked another Syncro joining the M25, got a wave, but it disappeared into the rear view mirror....
So eventually found the entrance after a lap around sandown and the overflow parking. abandonded my syncro swiftly in the car park, before anyone noticed bits falling off
Then saw this beast standing head and shoulders above the car park crowd.


So wandered over with my recuperating 5 year old to say hello to Rob (Goldsyncro), brother and Dave of Futbus.
It was great to meet you guys and actually put some faces to names at last.
Rob your syncro is something to behold ! Made mine seem even lowlier. It is a shed on wheels ATM
Great to talk to you Dave and get your advice. I'll certainly be bending your ear somemore
It was actually the highlight of the show running into you guys. Well for me. I think the icecream was Lilys

Well a distinct lack of T25s there really. Lots of everything else.

Bays galore,Souless T4s T5s. Some mentally bling T5s too mind, like extras out of the Fast and furious ! You don't have to be a drug dealer to own one just have vast amounts of surplus cash to burn (Hey they could buy a Syncro ?)

Basically lots and lots of bolt on air cooled bits, and shiny stuff.

There was one stand in the "autojumble" room selling T25 bits.
I considered some double glazed windows, but I'm not sure what will fit, and would like a matching set.



Most tempting was a pair of opening quarterlights for £100. But No1 on the list is a poptop for the kids to sleep in and much more restoration necessities before I start buying niceties.

So our flying 2 hour visit was over all to soon, so we headed out to the car park looking for syncros.
Just intime to see our mystery M25 companion leaving, got a quick hello through the window, but he was off..

Well it was quite an eye opener for me. I've not been to a Volksworld show before. Tho I still have issue no1 from when I was a school boy.
seems I could get my whole van restored refitted and customised for a price of course, but the bolt on bling was bewildering. No shortage of mass produced bits to personalise your wagon it seems.

had a nice cup of tea and a bacon sandwich with tony, and a mooch around saw a couple of other syncros in the car car park but this one realy cought my eye.

I took the kids and they loved it. I thought it was a bit samey, some serious 'period/ distressed' accessorising going on. Saw an awesome Syncro leaving as I arrived, vindic looked a bit shabby tho.
This bad boy was in the staff parking lucky owner has a NATO canopy


Love this front ladder, shame the lowered splitty only came up to my waist rendering it useless


There were better lookers at the show. I still warm to a kübel. But this one sent me misty eyed. My first ever VW - Tomato Red 1600 GT Beetle bought when I was 16. Loved that car

Show stealer for my better half was this Gypsy which was tucked away in traders area. She showed mild interest when I said they have made a few Syncro versions ( Maybe even 16"). Conversation went a bit flat when she suggested I sell first

nato canopy doka is the Naafi wagon, ex me and syncroAndy, good to see it's on the road, shame you didn't chat to owner would love to know if it's still the guy from the Navy who bought it off us - did it have any faux ww2 bomber painting on it ? That's what he was threatening to do to it - must admit I'm surprised the transmission hasn't come in for a rebuild yet it always had a noise on lock on reverse - non locker 1.9 DG, ex US airforce based in Germany, supplied as part of Marshall plan repayments by German Govt. to US forces based in Germany
